KTA Crystals & Applications
Potassium Titanyle Arsenate(KTiOAsO4, KTA)- is an excellent NLO crystal, particularly suited for Optical Parametric Oscillation or Amplifier (OPO/OPA) application at generating high power mid-infrared (MIR 3-5µm) laser. KTA crystal exhibits enhanced non-linear optical and electro-optical coefficients, significantly reduced absorption in the 2.0-5.0 µm region, broad angular and temperature acceptance, low dielectric constants. Furthermore, the low ionic conductivities of KTA crystals contribute to a higher damage threshold when compared to KTP.
High power 2.0-5.0 µm mid-infrared laser source has recently achieved significant applications in biological tissuses study, security and defense devices. By using a 1064nm Nd:YAG or a 1030nm Yb:YAG pump, an x-cut KTA crystal can be temperature-tuned to generate 2-5 µm mid-infrared laser.
